देश में चीनी की बढ़ती कीमतों के बीच केंद्र सरकार ने बड़ा एक्शन लिया है... सरकार ने साफ किया है कि चीनी के दाम बढ़ने के लिए इथेनॉल उत्पादन को जिम्मेदार ठहराना सही नहीं है। सरकार के मुताबिक... घरेलू चीनी उत्पादन उम्मीद से कम रहना... त्योहारों से पहले मांग बढ़ना... मौसम की वजह से गन्ने की फसल को नुकसान... वैश्विक बाजार में सप्लाई की कमी और कुछ जगहों पर जमाखोरी-सट्टेबाजी इसके प्रमुख कारण हैं। सरकार ने चीनी की उपलब्धता बढ़ाने और कीमतों पर नियंत्रण के लिए स्टॉक लिमिट सख्त की है... साथ ही एक लाख टन कच्ची चीनी के शुल्क-मुक्त आयात की अनुमति भी दी है।
